Laser cleaner option

LASER CLEANER ADD-ON | LASER CLEANING MACHINE

As of January 2026, we now offer water cooled models G5-2000WC-CL and G5-3000WC with laser cleaning included as standard.  This supersedes the older style convertible “3 in 1” welding gun.  Our new system provides the “4 in 1” functions of laser welding, laser seam and weld cleaning, wide laser cleaning and laser cutting in one head.  Laser cleaners are normally very expensive, but the incremental cost for this option is small (actually ZERO cost) making it a mandatory option if you need this functionality.

CHANGEOVER AT THE TOUCH OF A BUTTON.

Our touchscreen has a button to switch between cleaning and welding.  Both modes have pre-sets to store your favourite settings.  Note that the focus lens must be changed for wide cleaning, and the output tube is removed and replaced with the supplied shroud.  Change over only takes one to two minutes, but a clean environment is required.  If necessary, a new plastic bag can be used to create a mini clean room.

AVOID HEAD SWAPPING TO AVOID EXPENSIVE FAILURES

We strongly recommend our “one head” system over systems with separate heads because swapping the head allows dust entry into both the laser source and the head.  Fibre lasers use the cable as part of the gain system, and the cable is an integral part of the laser source.  Removing the head allows dust to reach the QBH bayonet crystal.  Dust can cause expensive failure of the laser source, and also failure of the head or at least the collimating lens.

LASER CLEANING HEAD RATED FOR 3000W

Our new head (AKA torch or gun) is rated for 3000 Watts, cleans quickly and has proven very reliable.  We believe it is unsurpassed for reliability.  It is also fully serviceable, and if it does need repair we carry all the required spare parts.

WHAT CAN THE LASER CLEANER REMOVE?

Our 2000 Watt and 3000 Watt lasers in cleaner mode can quickly clean rust, mill scale, galvanizing or plated coatings, paint, oil, powder coating, soot and other contaminants.  These laser cleaning machines burn away the top layer, not having much effect on the underlying metal.  Our water cooled laser welders are continuous wave, but we can also operated them in our pulsed mode to reduce heat input for somewhat fragile items.  For example car panels will quickly distort with continuous wave operation, but our pulsing modes can clean the paint with much less heat input.

DEDICATED 3000W LASER CLEANER OPTIONS

Our dedicated 3000W professional laser cleaner comes with a choice of single wobble and double wobble heads and control systems.  Single wobble means the laser scans left-right in one axis.  Double wobble is also known as dual axis scanning, which means the laser beam can be scanned left-right and up-down (x and y axes) which allows for several scanning patterns to suit certain situations.  Dual axis scanning is best for a neat visual/cosmetic finish, including blending of the edges.  Single axis or single wobble heads are simpler and better suited for fast blasting all day long, where reliablilty and simplicity are more important than a neat, aesthetic finish.  Single wobble uses a stitching or zig-zag pattern, which is more noticeable.

PULSED LASER CLEANERS ALSO AVAILABLE

Laser welder also specialises in pulsed models such as our 300W and 500W high frequency MOPA cleaners.  These are perfect for more delicate items such as cleaning off furniture coatings, masonry and building materials and car body panels.  Soot removal from fire damaged buildings is best done with our pulsed MOPA laser cleaners.  Despite being lower power, the pulsed models remove material about three times as fast as the 2000W and 3000W cleaners on a speed per Watt basis.  However the continuous wave 2kW and 3kW cleaners have 6 to 10 times the power, so they clean about 2 to 3 times as fast as our 300 Watt pulsed cleaner.
