Fibre Laser Window 304x304x5
Our Fibre Laser Windows are certified to Australian Standard AS/NZS 12254. They are good value and offer excellent eye protection. The provide high optical clarity and good visible light transmission (VLT) while blocking dangerous fibre laser wavelengths in several ranges, mainly 960 to 1400nm. Our testing shows extremely high blocking performance at 1064nm (Q-switch JPT and other marking lasers for example), and also at the important 1070 to 1085nm wavelength range, which is usually used by hand held laser welders and laser cleaners. Note the ratings are marked on every window, which is both a regulatory requirement, and also reassures that the windows are correct for the application. Unmarked windows are more likely to be fake: Simple green acrylic, which is very cheap to make but VERY dangerous because it offers basically zero protection. For this reason, windows must only be sourced from reputable suppliers.
Our windows are made from polycarbonate resin with a special mineral which absorbs laser light (invisible “radiation”) at the key wavelengths. Polycarbonate is almost unbreakable, and has far higher impact resistance than conventional acrylic.
In summary, our special windows protect in three key ways:
- High attenuation. Our testing shows very high performance in the range 1064 to 1080nm, far higher than any laser glasses we have tested. The rated attenuation for the range 900-1400nm is approximately 500,000 however the actual attenuation around 1060 to 1085 is much higher.
- High penetration resistance: AS 12254 covers scattered radiation, but the worst case exposure could be more concentrated. That is the worst case situation, and in our in-house penetration testing we found our windows last considerably longer than other windows we tested.
- High impact resistance. Our polycarbonate is almost unbreakable, whereas acrylic laser windows are brittle and we don’t recommend using them.
Laser blocking windows are important to protect everyone outside your welding area, and allow unprotected personnel to observe or monitor staff inside.
